Dear Friends,

We have the pleasure to invite you to participate in the 8th International Congress of the Polish Neuroscience Society which will be held in Krakow from September 24 to 27, 2007. Polish Neuroscience Society was formed in 1991. Currently, the Society has over 300 members who study the brain and nervous system. Its primary goals include promotion of the progress in the field of brain research as well as representation of Polish neuroscientists within the country and abroad. The Society publishes the scientific journal Acta Neurobiologiae Experimentalis and holds biannual meetings This year, the last day of the Congress, September 27, will simultaneously be the first day of the Sixth Meeting of the Polish Chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain.

Krakow, the former capital of Poland, the seat of the former kings of Poland, the home of the oldest university in this part of Europe, a place with hundreds of unique monuments and dozens of museums and galleries, is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and one of the largest cultural centres. The Old Town with the Market Square - the biggest medieval square in Europe, with the Royal Castle of Wawel Hill and with Kazimierz - the biggest and most valuable group of Jewish historic buildings in Europe, was included on UNESCO\'s first list of the world\'s cultural heritage in 1978. Krakow was also European City of Culture in year 2000.

Krakow is a city of students - there are over 100 thousands of them studying at 12 institutions of higher education, thanks to which one of the country\'s oldest cities is simultaneously one of the youngest in spirit. One of Europe\'s oldest academic institutions, the Jagiellonian University, founded in 1364, is based here.

So although the city is old, it still remains full of life, both during the day and at night too. The hundreds of pubs and clubs only begin to close their doors just as the sun is coming up. There are several shopping centres which tempt the customers in with attractive prices and many newly-built hotels which can meet the demands of even the most picky tourists. Due to the now regular and direct flights to Krakow from all the biggest cities in Europe more and more visitors are coming to here every year, including those attending conferences and conventions.
